As part of Sun Peaks Quilters celebration of Black History Month, each quilter took on the task of creating a block that represented a specific direction to send slaves north towards freedom. The blocks were then sewn into a top by Pat and quilted by Pearl. The finished quilt was presented to the Sun Peaks Scouts and Beavers during their meeting in November 2014. The quilt will be used to raise funds for the troop and their activities. The nine blocks in the quilt included Flying Geese, Bow Tie, Shoofly/Curn Dash, Monkey Wrench/Snails Tail, Log Cabin, Drunkard’s Path, Northern Star, Dresden Plate and a Sailboat.
The Sun Peaks Quilters are all looking forward to teaching them how to make a simple quilt as part of their next project to earn badges.
